Walk. Trot. Heal.
The Santa Ynez Valley Therapeutic Riding Program, a 501(c)(3) organization, has a rich history dating back to 1990 when it was founded by Mary Ann Evans, PhD. Initially known as '4H Hearts,' we were operated by the UC 4H extension program for a decade. Our humble beginnings in Mary Ann's backyard with a single horse paved the way for our growth. In 2000, we transitioned into a separate 501(c)(3) as the extension program dissolved, and we found our current home at the Santa Ynez Valley Equestrian Association Center.
Today, we proudly hold the status of a Premier Accredited Center with PATH International, the highest international rating in our field. Our center undergoes rigorous audits by PATH Intl. every 5 years, ensuring our adherence to the highest standards. PATH Intl. also certifies our instructors and provides valuable guidance and continuing education on best practices in the industry, further enhancing our credibility.
Our motto, 'Walk. Trot. Heal.,' encapsulates the daily honor we have of helping people heal through the joy of horses. The Santa Ynez Valley Therapeutic Riding Program is not just an organization, but a community. We serve 60 students each week and 300 unduplicated people annually, making a tangible difference in the lives of those we touch.
"There is much we can learn from a friend who happens to be a horse."
